Renault Brand Euro Sales (By Model) : 2000-2019 (Part 1)

Renault has been a popular model across Europe for many decades. In the 1990's, it secured between 10-11% of the market. Moving into this century, how would the company fare in an increasingly competitive and changing market place?

This Mégane model proved to be very  popular 

2000-2004: Through this period, Renault was very strong, with the Mégane, Clio and Scénic all selling extremely well. They were ably supported by a group of varied models all exceeding 60,000 units. Total sales consistently exceeded 1.5 million and market share topping 10%. It boded well for the future.

The outlook wasn't so rosy for the new Scénic compact MPV

2005-2009: The second half of the decade started to tell a different story. The Clio held up well and the new Twingo added volume but the rest of the range was not faring so well. The range was extensive but overall not as well received. Total sales fell to just over the million mark and its share in Europe to about 7.5%.

One development was that the market was swinging away from MPVs and passenger cars toward the SUV style of vehicle. While Renault's alliance partner Nissan was making hay around this time with the new Qashqai, the Koleos was a sales flop. Renault seemed to get caught out in this one.
