Regional: North America remains the biggest region for Land Rover, with 30% of the total delivered. The UK had a strong September, pushing up to 24% share. China is now down to just 12% of deliveries, well down on a peak of 27% a few years back, MENA (Middle East & North Africa) suffered with the coflict in the region. Two of the regions that did best (UK and Europe) in terms of limiting the sales fall are the two closest to the manufacturing plants.

Land Rover Sales : 2025

Deliveries were down 9% in 2025. The cyber attack that disrupted production has had an effect. That negativity may linger into 2026, especially in far flung corners of the world where shipping vehicles to such destinations takes time.
The marque's mixture of quality combined with ruggedness gives it a certain 'je ne sais quoi', not that French buyers can appreciate that now.In 2025 Land Rover pulled out of the passenger car market in France. 11,200 LRs passenger vehicles were sold in France in 2024 with some extra sales achieved as stock was snapped up. An explanation for that is in the comments section.
Models: The Defender leads the way with 31% of LR sales, with over 107,000 units delivered. The Range Rover Sport reached 74,000 deliveries and the Range Rover got close to 67,000 units.

An Entitled Workforce
My grandfather worked his way up in a company to management level in the UK. Having been a worker and in management, he had a perspective on both sides, yet he would often say "The working man's enemy is the working man himself".
JLR has recently had to contend with tariffs put in place in its largest market. It was more recently hit by a cyber attack that really hurt the company financially. You would think common sense would prevail and the current situation JLR is facing would temper wage increase expectations.
A pay offer has just been submitted by the company and the trade unions recommended its acceptance. 7,724 workers rejected the offer, with 2,129 accepting it. This is a short sighted, self centred reaction from the majority of the workers.
I recently wrote an article on the subject generally, which can be read by clicking here. So back to the negotiating table. I would have thought the best thing for JLR would now be to start planning to move all its production off shore. They could make vehicles just about anywhere else at a lower cost.
The industry is facing increased competition and JLR is under pressure like many other car makers. A shout out to the trade unions for showing some common sense, and the 2,129 workers who are seeing the bigger picture. As for the rest, you are your own worst enemy.

Land Rover UK Historical Market Share

I have no history with the marque whatsoever. I may have driven in one many years ago but that's it. Yet I'm keen on them and like their design styling.
Land Rover got into volume as new models were added. By the time 2001 arrived, there were four in total. Three were for to the passenger car segment and one was mainly a light commercial. The figures below are compared against all vehicles sold in the UK.
In 2001, LR were taking 1.6% of the total. The fact that the data includes cars, trucks and buses, none of which LR compete with, it was not a bad result. The Evoque was released in 2011 and that noticeably lifted the volume as it quickly became the best selling model.
Another lift came with the Velar's release in 2017 and the same thing for the new Defender in 2020. There was a slight dip after that but a recovery came almost immediately. Current share is nearly double over the period below, thanks to a wider range of models and the premium 4x4 SUV market is quite a popular one.
A Defender Sport model is apparently on the way. It's reported to be a smaller and more affordable than the current Defender. That would be a model that would surely fit nicely into the range as other LR models head more up market.
Commercial sales are not that large for LR. They were 13% of the total sales in 2001 and were just under 9% in 2024. Two years ago, it was under 6% so a growth in that area of late.

JLR Plant Production : 2023/24
JLR volume was up 3% for the year. The company doesn't provide the data as presented here but I've put together what is a reasonably accurate picture of where they make their vehicles.
The UK has three assembly plants and overall they had a good year. The Solihull facility is the main plant for JLR, making some Land Rover models and the F-Pace. Halewood is exclusively a Land Rover plant. Castle Bromwich has made its last fossil fuel Jaguar cars during 2024. The plant will be repurposed for other duties.
Overseas, the plant in Slovakia continues with Land Rover production. The Graz production is done on a subcontract basis for Jaguar and continues for the time being. The Chinese joint venture will gradually switch to electric production and will in future create the Freelander brand built on Chery EV architecture. Finally what appears to be the underachieving operation in Brazil making two Land Rover models.

Land Rover Model/Regional Sales : 2023-24

Land Rover is a popular marque with a global following. It has a reputation for offroad capabilities and all of its vehicles have that in them. That ensures they have a loyal following, even if the owner doesn't need to go offroad. It's nice to know it is there if required. They look good too. So how are sales going?
Models: The Defender has well established itself as the leading model with 29% of the total. It also had a 0% increase for the year. Supply has improved so hopefully wait times are down and maybe it has reached an expected level of sales. Next is the Range Rover Sport which was up 22% and accounted for 19% of the total. The Range Rover was third and up 22% and a strong selling model with 75,000 sales. The Evoque more than held its own with a 4% gain but the Discovery Sport dropped slightly, by 5%. The Discovery was down 12%, a good car it is not fully appreciated. The UK was up a useful 14% but Europe fell slightly as sales there are generally quite poor too, now outsold by the rest of the world. Overall sales were up 19,000 units and 5%.

JLR Sales By Plant : 2022-23

JLR doesn't have a large number of assembly plants yet it has more than many might expect considering its size. The data below is retail sales attributed back to the factory of origin as best as I can do so. Volume was up 27% which was really positive.
Data source: JLR data as a basis.
Plants: Solihull c. Birmingham in the English Midlands is the largest producer of vehicles, mostly Land Rover. Nitra is in the west of Slovakia and is increasingly an important cog in the manufacturing structure of JLR. Only LR vehicles are made here.

Land Rover Japan / Korea Sales Comparison : 2009-2023
Two and a half years ago I did an article on this which included Jaguar. I'm updating this but for this one, it's just Land Rover. Have the past 30 months added much? Indeed it has so let's take a look at each country separately.
Korea: There was progressive increases up until 2018. What happened then I don't know. I do know that in Korea importers can't be too successful or authorities get shall we say watchful. I don't have an inside story but sales tumbled without an obvious cause. 2023 saw a useful increase and 2024 will interesting.
Japan: Sales were neck and neck until 2014 when Korea bolted but Japan had modest gains. Japan's avoidance of a sales collapse stands in contrast to its regional neighbour. With supplies of the Defender in particular improved in 2023, a sudden jump not seen before occurred.
Summary: What happened in Korea will never become common knowledge and it doesn't have to. It's their business and I'd rather hear nothing than be fed half truth or misleading spin. What we can say with absolute confidence is that 2023 was good for Land Rover in both countries.

Land Rover Global Model Sales : 2023

With the curse of the semiconductor shortage supply issue behind them and the Nitra plant in Slovakia recently adding a third shift, vehicles are flowing through the system. According to JLR, there are still many orders to be fulfilled but waiting times are reducing.
As JLR does quarterly figures only, the last quarter (Q4) was up 31% an the year as a whole was up 32%. The Defender and the Discovery have both lifted their share of total LR deliveries. The former up to 31% and the latter 5%.
The new Range Rover is finally reaching long suffering customers and the Ranger Rover Sport went from 35,600 to 67,000 units delivered. The rest of the range is down but certainly not out. Overall the 2023 volume is the highest since 2019.

All the regions are very close with the 'Other' now the third strongest region. China became the largest region in 2022 and held on to that...just.02 April 2023
Land Rover Defender Top Nations : 2022

Range Rover Sport Top Nations : 2022

There isn't a huge difference between the Range Rover and the RR Sport but the former is slightly more luxurious while the lighter Sport is a little better on the driving front. The Sports lower price point usually has it selling in larger numbers but for 2022, there was nothing in it.
The USA and the UK are major markets but with 45% of the total. The car has always been a good seller in Italy and Australia outperforming Germany is a surprise.

Land Rover Discovery Top Nations : 2022

The current Discovery is a top draw product that doesn't sell in the numbers it deserves to. The UK is the primary market with 30% of sales. In some European countries like Ireland, it is very popular as a commercial vehicle with just two seats (see picture below).
What may put off some buyers is it is so good off road that there has to be some compromise when on tarmac. It has a breadth of talent that go beyond what most users need, in some respects an overkill. The sort of thing I don't need but somewhere in my subconscious I'd like to own. Not to satisfy a materialistic craving but a fascination with what it can do.

Land Rover Discovery Sport Top Nations : 2022

A long time big selling model for the company but last year was by far the poorest since its inception. With the issues around the industry, it's hard to draw conclusions from that but 2023 will tell us more with semiconductors more readily available. I's the most likely Land Rover I'd own.
The Chinese assembler of the Discovery Sport were able to keep the numbers ticking over and as a result over 42% of all Disco Sports sold were in China. They are also assembled in Brazil so that helped there. The USA was some way ahead of the UK although US numbers by model are hard to come by so I trust the source is kosher.

Range Rover Top Nations : 2022
The Range Rover has come a long way from its beginning in 1970. It was a workhorse back then and it wasn't that popular initially. As it evolved into a posh, high riding luxury car and people's affluence grew it has certainly earned its keep.
Others have followed it but not with the same offroad capabilities, which give it a uniqueness that appeals to many. It's nice to know it is so capable offroad even if that is never realised.
The USA is a strong market for the car, with 30% of total sales. The UK is less than half of that and Germany less that a quarter of the UK. China is conspicuous by its absence as also a few other places as the 'Other' 50% would indicate. It was interesting to see Korea make the list.
