Renault Alpine Sales : 2017-2025

The origional Renault Alpine A106 came out in 1955 and the Alpine name has been used at various times for sporty models. The 2017 Alpine A110 is the most recent iteration, a lightweight, mid-engined sports car as a performance sub brand for Renault.

The A110 has now been joined by the A290, a performance focused electric hatch based on the Renault 5 E-Tech.

A290 deliveries started at the end of 2024 so the 2025 year is where the A290's impact was felt. It certainly gave the niche brand a lift in volume.

The A106 and A290 between them have run up 34,549 sales up until the end of 2025. There isn't a model breakdown but one might assume the 2025 split was 60/40 in favour of the A290.

For now it relies on Europe for its sales with plans to expand from there. For instance, the US market could be a new one for the marque in 2027.

In 2026, the A390 electric crossover using the Scenic E-Tech / Nissan Ariya platform arrives to make it three in the Alpine range.

Dacia PC/LCV Sales : 2019-2025

The Dacia brand seems to have hit a ceiling at around the 700,000 units. Some Dacia models are sold under the Renault brand though.

It was in 2022 that Renault last provided model breakdowns allowing us to see how many Dacias were sold as Renaults. It was 14.1% of Renault sales with Dacia based models.
That was 199,466 units in total and that number added to the 2022 figure brings it up to 773,539.

That's a quarter of Dacia vehicles sold as Renaults for the year.

Dacia's contribution to the Renault Group sales is substantial, more than the figures above would suggest.

Full credit to Renault for exploiting that opportunity in certain regions of the world. Creating the modern day Dacia brand was a bold and astute move by Carlos Ghosn.

Renault PC/LCV Sales : 2019-2025

To the right is passenger car and light commercial sales. There was a steep decline and now it seems a recovery is underway.

Renault used to give a model breakdown so we could get a better understanding of what was happening but they don't anymore. I think that's a shame.

They gave more than other car manufacturers but giving out detailed data is a bold thing to do and eventually they pulled the plug. I still have the data but it's no longer current.

Renault / Dacia Global Model Sales : 2023

It has been decided by the Renault Group to release sales of the Renault brand together with Dacia. Renault borrows some Dacia models for selected markets so the logic of combining has merit. It's just a shame that Dacia isn't presented as a stand alone brand anymore. Lada was briefly grouped together with Dacia but that situation ending may have prompted the move.

Now that I cannot put each brand in a separate article, they are both here in the list below. The new way does enlarge the Dacia/Renault shared models. The Clio which is Renault's top model is relegated to second place with the Sandero becoming the slightly stronger selling model instead.

The date covers passengers cars as well as light commercial vehiles. Green represents an increase in share for a model in comparison to the others listed. Overall there an 11% increase with the Clio doing particularly well when compared to 2022.

Renault Korea Model Sales : 2023

Renault is changing tack in Korea. In 2022 China's Geely bought a third stake in RKM (Renualt Korea Motors) and by 2024 is planning to build cars at RKM's Busan assembly plant. The cars are being designed by RKM on Geely architecture and technology. I assume the Busan plant will still be heavily involved with exporting cars.

For now, RKM is selling its own cars but sales are in decline. Until the new cars arrive they are effectively sailing into a headwind trying to compete with newer models from the competition.

The QM6 SUV (aka the Renault Koleos - picture below) is the main model but is slowing faster than the other two models. The XM3 crossover (aka the Renault Arkana - picture above) is quite a new model and I thought it may have sold in greater numbers. Finally, the SM6 (aka the Renault Talisman) is a large car that has been retired by Renault and presumably soon by RKM.

The new arrangement with Geely cannot come quick enough for RKM but when operative will make it a more successful unit with the Renault Group. The chart shows the downward trajectory of sales.

Renault Group South America Sales : 2020-22

It may not be well known that the Renault Group has a solid presence in this part of the world. It's based around Dacia models which are ideal for the region. It also includes Central America in case you were wondering about some of the countries listed below.

Despite trying circumstances around the world, sales have held up well in the region. Some of the countries below are impossible to get data for so this offers an insight not otherwise found.

It seems Renault will no longer be releasing this sort of data in the future. That's a shame but seeing no one else does, it was perhaps only a matter of time before this happened anyway.

Renault Group Central Asia Sales : 2020-22

These countries have volatile sales volumes and of late they have been not so great. I believe Renault sales ceased in Kazakhstan at the end of 2022 and halted assembly in Uzbekistan due to component supply issues. With Renault leaving Russia as well, it certainly hasn't been a great time for the brand in the area to the west of Europe.

I'm unsure what the prognosis is either but there is enough of the rest of the world to focus on to keep Renault gainfully employed. The picture above is or should I say was the Uzbeb assembly line.

Renault Group Middle East Sales : 2020-22

This is an area where sales statistics are not readily available so this is unique data below. Renault has fallen over the last few years but overall sales have also done so as well.

Israel is the main market in the region, with Saidu Arabia next. The region is strong for Asian brands so ones from Europe have to fight hard to have an impression, unless they are of the premium variety.

Renault Group Asia/Pacific Sales : 2020-22

This region has been quite good for the Renault Group but a couple of situations have affected volume in recent times. One is the repositioning of Samsung in Korea, in which the right to use that name has expired. Geely has recently acquired 34% of Renault Korea Motors and between the two companies, new models will come online. It will also give Geely access to the USA via Korea.

I digressed so back to situation two. China. Renault was late to the party and found for various reasons conditions unfavourable hence the retreat. Otherwise most markets in the area are doing well. It's just that two larger markets in the region experiencing headwinds have affected total volume. India is now the biggest market for the Renault Group in Asia/Pacific.

Renault Group Africa Sales : 2020-22

Another difficult region to get data for bar a few countries. North Africa is where most Renault products find their way, partly because they are larger than most and also through a greater French influence.

Morocco leads the way with South Africa/Namibia next. Algeria includes Brokers, someone used to facilitate the transfer of goods or assets from one party to another. I'm not sure how that fits in but it isn't a large part of sales overall. NITCO is a brokerage firm also, again not a big part of the sales.

It includes all Renault brands so here Dacia plays a large part too. It's an interesting and unique insight other car manufacturers don't share and I suspect this won't be available for the 2023 year or thereafter.

Renault Group Caribbean Sales : 2020-22

It may be a small region of the world but obtaining any data on the Caribbean is all but impossible so well done Renault for giving us this insight. I included French Guiana in this listing. Although geographically it is in South America, I see it from a cultural point of view as Caribbean.

Considering the size of some of these places, the numbers are good. The top three are connected to France so it is to be expected that they would be the main markets for Renault in this region. Overall sales have kept an even flow about them numerically at a time when globally there have been many upheavals.

Eveasy Model Sales : 2023

Renault is all at sea in China. It was a late arrival in an already established market and immediately sailed into headwinds. It got involved with the brands Shineray, Jinbei, Mianyang Huarui, Brilliance and Eveasy. They all sank quickly with the exception of Eveasy and that one seems to be treading water.

Eveasy is a joint venture with JMC and another entity. The main model is the GSE small saloon car which accounts for half of sales so far in 2023.

Data source: Renault.

The Ev2 is a tiny hatchback that is selling well in 2023, relatively speaking. Then the Ev3 mini hatchback (picture above) which looks like it may soon sink without trace going by sales so far this year.

As recently as 2020, these joint venture arrangements were yielding over 150,000 sales per annum. Then as one by one they were scuttled, the numbers fell to what is 1,962 in H1 2023. What the future of Eveasy is I can't say but with heavy discounting currently going on in the Chinese market, some brands may fold. There are rough seas ahead.

Another brand Renault has created is Mobilize, a car share company arrangement. The plan is or was to have mostly a fleet of taxis and chauffeur driven cars in Europe. The car they have created is called the Limo (picture below). It's a new field that may need time to catch on, as almost non existant units moved so far would indicate.

Renault / Dacia Euro Market Share Graph

Dacia started out making older model Renaults as a value brand. Eventually, Renault took control and continued with that value strategy but with its own models rather than older Renault cars. Has it worked?

Renault has yielded market share to position itself at a sustainable level rather than chase volume for the prestige often associated with higher market penetration. Dacia is in a very different position, in an area of the market that has been ignored by other car makers. Dacia's progress has been done in a profitable way too.

After three months of 2023, the brands are almost equal in terms of sales. Renault has an abundance of competition whereas Dacia doesn't so that shouldn't be surprising. I like what Dacia offers, no frills motoring. That appeals to me.

Below the numbers on each side of the graph represents the percentage market share in Europe.

Renault Group Top 75 Nation Sales : 2022

You have to take your hat off to Renault for providing what is unique in the car industry, letting us see sales by country. A few do regions and most do nothing. Yet people want to know but I guess if you put out data then you will have people interpret it, whereas large corporations want to control that.

Below is a list of 75 nations the Renault Group operate in and how many vehicles they sold in each one. Russian data and all that is associated with that is removed from 2021. That is understandable as the data would be distorted otherwise, giving a misleading picture.

There were another 50 nations that didn't make the list below for 2022 and their combined sales were 5,222. I would like to challenge other car manufacturers to follow suit but it would be pointless as they won't. I hope Renault continues with their open policy.

Renault India Model Sales : 2019-22

Leaving 2018, Renault was back to a minor 2.5% of the total sales in the country. The Duster was running out of steam, the Capture and Lodgy had both failed. The Range needed something new.

2019/20: In came the Triber (picture above), a small MPV that seemed to be a good car for the market. It became the best selling car in the range and took Renault's total share back over 3%. The Capture and Lodgy said their good byes.

2021: The Duster ended its time here and the Kiger (pic right) arrived. Smaller than the Duster, it is identical in length to the Triber but has an SUV body style.

In a country where a few brands dominate, finding a niche that enables a brand to be viable isn't easy. The figures below are full years except for 2022, which is for the first five months.

2022: Sales are reasonable but not enough to retain market share, as it returns yet again to well below the 3% mark. Apparently, more models are coming which would help as the present lineup looks a little thin.

For others in the series, click on the dates: 2011-14; 2015-18.

Dacia Brand Model Sales : 2021-22

With so many companies experiencing reduced sales, it is a pleasant surprise to see one actually in a plus situation. The Dokker took a hit as Dacia now leaves commercial vehicles to Renault, which makes the result even more meritorious. The colouring is based on changes in its share compared to last year's equivalent.

I like the fact that in Europe there is a market for a brand like this. Cars today have become too complex and less reliable as a result. Simplicity is a value that has been lost and we are becoming the poorer for it. The inability of the car industry to procure sufficient stock to meet demand is a problem of its own making.

I have never wanted to own a new car less than I do today. If Dacia ever makes it to New Zealand, I may be persuaded to rethink that.

Renault Brand Model Sales : 2021-22

With sales down 16% for the year, there weren't many models on the up. So which ones at least enhanced their share of total sales? A hint: green. Below green shows which models are doing that. The base of the chart shows the Alpine brand. Small but a good year. The data below is foir passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.

The Clio (pic above) has been top for so long and isn't threatened. The Arkana model jumped from 18th to 6th and the Express van had a good upturn. It replaced the Dacia Dokker in 2021 but it seems the Dokker name will continue with Renault in some countries. The new Austral (pic immediately below) is about to replace the Kadjar.
