A Rodeo version. Yee-haw |
Isuzu Mysterious Utility.
-difficult or impossible to understand, explain, or identify.
Isuzu has run of SUVs going back to 1989 with the MU moniker, the word Wizard included for the Isuzu model. The smaller of the two ended its run in 2004, using names such as Frontera and Rodeo. The larger range of MUs is based on the D-Max ute, starting around 2005 and still sold today as the MU-X.
As for the name, when I first saw it, I thought the driver was a supporter of a certain football team! I understand the Utility part but I find it difficult to understand how the word Mystery was ever applied to the vehicles concerned. The Wizard added at the end of Isuzu models was just as baffling as there was nothing magical about it at all.
They were a very basic, dependable form of transport. There are SUVs out there I find mysterious, like the BMW X6. Any SUV pretending to be a sporty vehicle compromises practicality and isn't very sporty, yet the sell. That's a mystery to me. However, the Isuzu offerings are practical even if they are somewhat dull. So as a no nonsense SUV, Isuzu MUs make perfect sense. Just not the MU part.
Alternative name suggestion: Modestly Unpretentious.
The latest MU-X is still no frills motoring so still no mystery there |
Others in the series: Daewoo le Mans / Cielo, Nissan Sylphy,
