It is rather bland in the styling department |
Daihatsu Applause.
- Approval or praise expressed by clapping.
Now I'm a fan of the brand as they make very practical and reliable cars. The durability ensured that it wasn't clapped-out too early during its ownership cycle. Daihatsu's intention was that this compact car was practical by making it a hatchback, yet have it look like a car with a boot (trunk). A plausible idea (pun alert) but one that didn't seem to catch on. The interior was dull and the styling in my eyes at least uninspiring.
The car itself was best suited around town because on the open road I believe it suffered from numb steering feel. It was retired after ten or so years without a replacement model to follow. Hardly a standing ovation then, but maybe slightly better than a slow hand clap.
Alternative name suggestion: Daihatsu Forsaken.
Innovative thinking but not an idea that took off |
