VW took a share in Škoda in 1991 and eventually took full ownership in 2000. The process of bringing the brand to where it is now has taken time but it has a been a success. The range is still expanding and the second SUV was being launched at the end of 2016.
The mid-sized Octavia is by far the biggest selling model, with the small Rapid and mini Fabia when combined make for similar volume. 1.15 million were made in 2016, the majority in the home country. China is the other major producing nation.
