VW Brand India Model Sales : 2015-18

Market share was falling after an initial spurt in sales when the brand arrived in India. It needed a product tailored to fit a favourable tax bracket for smaller cars if it hoped to push for more sales.

2016: In came the Ameo (picture above), a saloon car that slotted under the Vento. It was slightly less than 4 metres long to fit under the afore mentioned tax threshold.

2017: The Ameo had its first full year of sales, the Tiguan arrived and the Passat was reintroduced after one year's absence. The Jetta was quietly withdrawn and the Bettle had a brief and unspectacular stay.

2018: What was expected from the Ameo was far more than what it delivered. Sales fell sharply and for a car developed with the Indian market in mind, it was a flop. Now down to a negligible 1.1% share, yet another brand was finding India a difficult nut to crack. Where to from here? Click here to find out.
