Half of the cars registered in Ireland in 2021 were done so in January and July. It makes those two months very important for car companies. Registrations for December were -36% sounds bad but 0.04% cars sold that month makes no impact on the year. For the full year, registrations were +18%, a healthy result all things considered.
The '+/-' column below is comparing market share variance for 2021 with 2020. Therefore, some brands that show a small decrease in share (yellow) would have experienced a slight increase in actual sales. Toyota is at the top after passing the 2020 top dog VW, with Hyundai circling menacingly in third place. MG's arrival has gone off reasonably well.
Point of interest: Pure electric car share went up from 4.5% to 8.2%. All types of hybrids reached 26.1%, up from 15.3% in 2020.
