Malaysia Vehicle Sales : 2020

No, I'm not promoting vitamin supplements but
the Proton Persona. It has the same effect though

Sales were up 26% in December but down 12% for the year. As is typical of protected markets, a few brands grab the lions share of sales and importers feed off crumbs. Perodua cars are made locally and are Daihatsu cars made under licence to Toyota. They have established a mammoth lead over the rest. They took charge in 2006 and haven't looked back.

Proton was the brand that lost its top spot in 2006 and sales fell away to the point of being under 11% of the market in 2018. Better product over the past two years and it revived remarkably. It now has over 20% of the market.

Of the rest, any doing OK are local manufacturers. Mercedes stopped publishing sales data during the year so its total isn't complete. I didn't want truck sales cluttering up the chart but that's what I got.
