Kia Global Model Sales : Jan-Jun 2020

No, that's not my Kia, but if you're offering...

Plant sales YTD were -5% for Korea and just a bit more of the negative for overseas plants, which is a surprisingly good result. Production increased as the year went on in 2019, mainly due to the arrival of the Seltos model (see picture above). The second half of the year may produce more of a percentage loss, depending on many factors.

The list below has a '+/- Diff' column that compares market share, six months of 2020 with a complete 2019. Then we see clearly how the models within the range are performing against each other.

Models: The Sportage is the most popular but not as much as it was. it's share of factory sales was down from 17.2% to 14.9%. The new Seltos is going in the other direction, from 3.9% to 11.8% and now sitting second. Those two SUVs have 27% of the total, the first time two cars of that type have been one - two.

Factory sales by country: Kia has always been heavily reliant on domestic production but recently has been spreading the load. Just as the figure approached the 50% point, it has slightly rebounded but it's a marginal difference. India was a big mover upward in terms of volume, not surprising as it is a new country for production. The USA and Mexico were the two that lost the most.
