Honda Model Sales Japan : 2021-22

Honda is a popular brand in Asia its home market Japan. Honda took 15.5% of all domestic sales and 50% of those registrations were in the Kei car category. 534,653 vehicles were sold in the local market. Honda has some quality photographs on their website. A minimum standard of professionalism I would have thought but not the case with some brands.

Key Models:

There is one very important model, the boxy N-BOX. Without it, Honda would be a small player here. Considering the size of Toyota in Japan, it is quite an achievement to have the best selling model.

Next is the Freed (picture at the top) with nearly 80,000 registrations. It's a small MPV model. The small hatchback Fit (Jazz) accounted for 60,000 sales and the small crossover Vezel (HR-V) next on 50,000 units. All are solid performers.

The N-WGN (above) is a similar car to the N-BOX but more rounded and not as tall although the length is the same. The StepWGN is a medium sized MPV and registrations of 38,000 are in keeping with its larger dimensions. The N-ONE (picture below the chart) went close to 19,000 units.

It's a surprise to see a car like the Civic sell in such small numbers. The Type R made up 1,800 sales and the regular car 7,000 units. The new ZR-V crossover arrived during the year, looking like a larger Ford Puma. It will be sold as the HR-V in some markets just to confuse things.

Summary: With the N-BOX taking 38% of all Honda sales in Japan, the importance of that model for the company cannot be overstated. It does have a few more reasonably successful cars but nothing like the boxy one.
