I've been reluctant to put data together for India. There are various sources and each differs both in numbers and even in brands shown. So the list below is compiled from more than one source and a few estimates are included too.
Suzuki has a huge market share but the competition is hotting up and one would expect its dominance to be lessened if never matched. Tata lost its way for a while but with help from JLR, is putting out much better vehicles and now reaping the benefit.
Because the market is massively over protected - even by Asian standards and that's saying something - sudden shifts can occur with a factory opening or a new model arriving. Kia opened a plant in mid 2019 and it is suddenly a big hitter. Nissan introduces the Magnite model and its ranking jumps.
