Samsung Global Brand Sales : 2021

The SM6 is also the Talisman but with tweaks for local taste

Samsung is a tiny brand in the Korean car market and with no export markets. With the Hyundai/Kia Group being virtually the only game in town, it struggles. It does make vehicles for other brands but as a stand alone brand, it's hard to see a purpose for its existence.

The three models currently on offer all took substantial hits in sales, the QM6 SUV (Renault Koleos) the least affected. The QM3 (Renault Arkana) was down two thirds and the SM6 (Renault Talisman) -75%. I wrote earlier in the year that moving into electric cars could be a way to keep things going.

On cue, in January 2022, Renault and Geely agreed to launch a jointly developed model from 2024 for the Korean market with other models to follow. The two sides are planning to produce and sell 'eco-friendly' cars initially for the domestic market but extending to others markets in due course. It was an obvious direction to take.
