Proton continues its revival as sales improve. Geely taking a 49.9% stake in 2017 is no doubt having a positive effect. It mainly sells cars in its home market of Malaysia but has a few regional export markets and is returning to South Africa.
Sales for 2022 have exceeded 140,000 and were up 23% on 2021. The Saga is the best selling model, up 31% and accounts for nearly 40% of all sales. The X50 compact SUV (pictured below) bettered that with a 41% hike in volume. The X70 SUV (pictured above) is up 13%. They are leading the charge, with the other three models of more limited volume and success.
