Chile Sales : 2021

Registrations for December were +42% and +58% in total for 2021 so the buoyant market continues in Chile albeit slowing slightly. Perhaps supply is starting to bite? The '+/-' column below is comparing market share variance for 2021 with 2020. Otherwise it would be all green (increase).

Chevrolet is narrowly in the lead with Suzuki which made a comeback after being deposed in 2020. Suzuki was the best selling brand a couple of years ago but maybe its budget priced product is being pressured by sharp pricing from Chinese makes. Chery came from nowhere to take the 3rd spot. MG is now 5th and this is the highest ranking for MG I know of. It's gone from 18th in four years and must surely be eyeing more upward success.

Chinese brands are now plentiful but few can sustain interest after an initial flurry. MG, as already noted, is an exception and Chery is also doing well. MG arrived in 2008 and Chery in 2007 so they have been toiling away and finally seem to have cracked it.

Point of interest: Back in the 1990's Chevrolet, Nissan, Hyundai and Lada were battling for the top. Lada went down and out quickly and Chevrolet took over for a while. Then the last few years Hyundai and Suzuki have upped the ante. The Chinese want some of the action now too.
