VW reinforced its lead over its Mladá Boleslav based sibling (marginally I guess) but the ones from Barcelona and Ingolstadt drew a bit closer. Sales for Jaguar have been very strong while the two new brands Cupra and MG are establishing themselves with healthy registration figures. In the luxury class, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Mclaren are on the up.
Points of interest: The number of new passenger cars registered was the lowest in 37 years. Electric cars made up 14% of total sales but 85% of those were purchased by companies. Private buyers are put off with issues around public recharging while companies buy them to avoid penalties due to excess emissions. Whatever the reasons, that's an unusual balance that needs addressing.

Its always shocking to see the absence of Japanese brands. Austria was their European stronghold in the 80s and 90s (https://raycee1234.blogspot.com/2013/02/car-sales-austria-1989.html)...
ReplyDeleteBest Japanese at nr13, proceeded by both Korean brands...
Well spotted. I had forgotten I had even written that!
