Suzuki moved into the top five |
Registrations were -32% in December, the YTD figure at -22%. While NZ hasn't been hit as hard as many places with the virus, the December figure came in lower than expected. Registrations were the lowest since 2012 and 22% below the 2019 number.
Toyota relies heavily on rental sales which come before the tourists arrive at the end of the year. With that not happening this year, Toyota's December figure was down a massive 62.5%. By the time 2020 had ended, it was the Big T's lowest market share for passenger cars since the year 2000.
Kia on the other hand increased a very strong 13%, taking its share from 6.8% to 9.9%. This was achieved as the brand sells heavily to private customers but is also pushing hard to improve still more. Suzuki moved up two placings, helped by Holden's exit from the market altogether in 2020. MG is brand on a mission, expanding its dealer network and pricing the product competitively.
