I have to doff my cap to Renault for their openness. They release detailed data on a monthly basis that gives an insight into the company and how it is doing. Why do other car companies not offer the same?
The company is comprised of four divisions. The first consists of the Renault and Samsung brands which sold 1,808,500 units. That's 1,751,000 and 57,500 each. Samsung is just a Korean entity that will be assisted by a newly formed joint venture between Renault and Geely in providing new products for the brand.
Then is the Dacia and Lada grouping. They will be working together in the future which makes sense. There was also AvtoVaz but that has been absorbed by Lada. Dacia and Lada are both doing fine, proving there is a market for new budget focused cars. Sales were 537,000 and 385,000 respectively.
Alpine is a sports brand that will expand beyond the solitary sports car it currently sells at about 220 per month. It's an interesting initiative.
Finally the China connection, which has been challenging. Jinbei Huasong and Eveasy are the two brands. The former puts a strong emphasis on vans and MPVs while Eveasy is focused on electric cars. For 2021 they recored 16,000 and 4,000 sales.
For the year the entire Renault Group is 2,696,500 sales, down 4%. Most brands did alright, Samsung and Jinbei notable exceptions. The Group is now more focused on sales that deliver better margins rather than pushing volume to produce economies of scale.
Data source: Renault.
Regions: Europe accounted for 53% of all sales, down a percentage point. Eurasia is the region between Europe and Asia but also encompassing the Balkans and Turkey is just under 25%. Latin America 10%, Asia / Pacific 7% and the Africa / Middle East region just under 6%.
