Japan Premium Graph : 2000-2020

Back in 2000, Mercedes was the clear leader in this segment, with MINI only a twinkle in BMW's eye. Volvo was quite strong but not much else was happening. Lexus sales were contained within Toyota, as those models being sold as such.

The MINI turned up and continued the popularity of that model in Japan. That sent BMW/MINI to the top, a place it didn't relinquish until 2020. Lexus became a brand in its own right around 2005 and while quite successful, it hasn't been able to lead at any stage.

Audi hasn't been a force here at any stage and is doing well to keep ahead of Volvo, which in itself is no more than a solid performer. Overall sales haven't grown much in this area of the market but considering total sales have been steadily declining, it's to be expected.
