Vietnam Vehicle Sales : 2023

In Vietnam, VAMA is the main body that collects sales data. According to them, December registrations for all vehicles were up 10% but dropped by 23% for the year. Adding Hyundai's official figure and my estimate for Vinfact brings that down to -20%. There are other brands not reporting sales but mostly smaller in volume.

Hyundai is the leading brand from Toyota and Kia. Ford and Mazda come in next and have made up some ground on those above them. Local company Vinfast has done well this year too after a turbulent start to its brief existence thus far. Hopefully, my estimate is not too far off.

There is an import duty here like in Asian vehicle manufacturing countries but understandable when it's getting on its feet. This means the variety of brands available to locals isn't overly varied. Surely more will join as the market grows.

The 'Diff' column shows market share change. Data source: Mainly VAMA.

Model sales: The Hyundai Accent (picture at the top) is popular but I don't have data for that or any from that brand. For VAMA associates, the best selling model was the Mitsubishi Xpander (see picture below) which achieved 19,740 units. It apparently gets admiring glances wherever it goes. Then comes the Mazda CX-5 (16,808), Ford Ranger (16,085), Toyota Vios (13,521), Kia Sonet (11,366) and Toyota Corolla Cross (10,485), all of them breaking the 10k barrier.
