Genesis Global Model Sales : 2021

The word Genesis has a meaning of origin or beginning. I assume this is the beginning of Hyundai's foray into the premium sector. Genesis started in 2008 as a model within the Hyundai range. The model was named the G80 large sedan in 2016 and Genesis was spun off as a separate brand in 2017.

As part of the invention of Genesis as a marque, the Hyundai Equus became the G90 super-sized sedan, the G70 medium executive car followed a year later. The GV80 medium/large SUV came in 2020, the GV70 medium crossover in 2021 and the GV60 compact crossover will be making a splash in 2022.

So it's been all go for Genesis to have a broad range of cars so quickly. Already 200,000 sales have been reached with the GV60 yet to have an impact. Mind you, 139,000 sales were registered in Korea so for now it's the domestic market that is really getting behind it.

I get the impression that Hyundai used Lexus as a benchmark when they wanted to do a premium range. What they both have in common is an extremely ugly schnoz, the only redeeming quality is they are distinct. That sort of thing doesn't seem to put off buyers anyway.
