Looking back over passenger car production in Italy, the record year was 1989, when just nearly 2 million cars exited plants in that country. The early 1990's witnessed quite a fall in numbers and by 2013 the total was under 400,000! Then things started to improve and since that year there has been an annual increase.
In 2017 nearly 750,000 passenger cars were made. Jeep , Alfa Romeo and Maserati have all been instrumental in this mini revival. Fiat fell below 50% of the total for the first time since at least WW II. The numbers may level off for now although the value per car made is now higher than at any other time before I would assume.
