Mexico Car Sales : 2017

All that's lacking is the tumble weed

Sales were down 5% after a 19% increase the previous year. Some brands were well down, others the opposite. Nissan is the most popular brand in the country and has continuously been so since 2009. It has consistently been around the 25% share for all of this decade. However, a 9% dip in 2017 dropped it below that percentage. GM took a hit this year, with sales -16% as shown in the chart below and this appears to be a deliberate move.

Hyundai and especially Kia may have arrived late but are making up for lost time. JLR has been doing it tough lately in Mexico. I have no idea why but I assume its something to do with the importer, as the company is generally doing extremely well in virtually all other nations. 2018 has started much better so maybe whatever the issue was, it's over.

The chart below shows a % symbol that represents market share. The +/- column is increase or decrease based on the sales of 2017 against the 2016 year.
