Sweden Car Sales : 2017

No prizes for guessing which is the best selling brand in Sweden. It took the top spot off Opel in 1958 and has led ever since. That is quite some record. Saab was often 2nd making it a local 1-2 but now it's Volvo to carry the torch for Swedish car manufacturing. It delivers one in five cars sold here.

Registrations of new cars rose +3.2% for the first six months and ended up +1.9%. That was lower than the +7.9% in 2016. Despite that, it was another record year of 379,000 sales. The sales growth did slow this year as could be expected.

VW has been the second best selling brand since 2007 but has not been able to break the stranglehold. It's performance this year hasn't been good, neither has sister brand Audi done well. It has dropped three places this year.

The chart below shows a % symbol that represents market share. The +/- column is increase or decrease based on market share of 2017 against the 2016 year.
