US Car Production - Brand : 2015-16

Car sales here exclude SUVs and pick-ups so it is a specialised segment, one that is in decline around the world. The US still likes the three box shape and the number made is still high. Eleven companies make them under many more brands. The list below shows that.

One thing that can happen with any vehicle manufacturing is that the numbers can move suddenly. A new plant or a closure, a model shifted to another country or one brought into the country and the numbers jerk suddenly one way or the other.

GM is the biggest by company and Chevrolet the largest by brand. It dropped 16% in 2015 and jumped 40% in 2016. The Camaro model did much for Chev's figures and the CT6 for Cadillac but it was a braod range of things that brought the increase. Chrysler lost out due the the 200 and Dart models declining, while with Ford the Focus took a hit.

Overall numbers down a paltry 1%, but I assume that a slow decline will the the long term prognosis, reflecting a trend toward other types of body styles in the car industry.
