South East England Sales - Brand : 2016

Slightly over 1 in 5 cars sold in the entire United Kingdom are bought in this area of England. It only has 13% of the population so it is an affluent area with strong car purchasing power. The two largest brands in 2016 were German, VW and Audi that combined take 20% of the sales here. With Mercedes 4th and BMW 6th, clearly the UK car industry is of no interest here.

Those makes that were stronger are: I've just mentioned three already. Put in percentages, VW is 10.5% (7.7% nationally), Audi 9.6% (6.6%), Mercedes 8.6% (6.3%) and Hyundai along with Toyota with 4.4% (3.4% & 3.6%).

Some that did worse: Amazingly BMW with 5.7% (6.8%), Ford 9.2% (11.8%), Vauxhall 7.9% (9.3%), (UK built) Nissan 3.5% (5.7%), Peugeot 2.7% (3.7%) Dacia unsurprisingly 0.5% (1.0) half the national average.

Summary: In snobsville premium sells, especially if its German. VW, Audi and Mercedes are stronger here than in any other region of the UK.
