Both sales below include light commercials as Land Rover has sold many vehicles that way for both places. That makes Jaguar's market figure a bit lower that it would otherwise be. The data reveals a strong preference in Italy for JLR products. The defender sold well in both places so it's demise was felt.
Italy averaged 1,740,000 sales and France 2,375,000 yet for JLR the positions are very much reversed. In Italy respectable 0.95% penetration was achieved, while in France it is a lowly 0.41%. Italians love LRs and Jaguar barely exceeds 10% of total company sales as a result.
Italy: Jaguar leaped in 2016 to nearly 20% but that should fall back in 2017. I've got the feeling that the style loving Italians are going to fall head over heels for the Velar, the way they did for the Evoque.
France: The French aren't big on premium cars but even so it's lower than one would expect. Again the Velar has to help as it is so classy. It is however arriving a bit late to have too much impact for 2017.
Summary: Two countries close together in location and population had quite a difference in volumes for JLR.
