|The Renault Sandero Stepway|
This French brand has had its ups and downs in the RSA, but is currently on the up. I believe it was as high as 5% market share in 2001 but fell away after that, to just 1.3% in 2008. It picked up again recently so what is 'doing it' for the brand? Let's look at sales by best selling models for 2016.
Sandero: A compact sized Dacia car sold under the Renault logo outside of Europe as a budget model in places such vehicles are in demand.
Clio: A super mini car that continues to succeed for the company.
Captur: A small crossover car recently brought out to compete in this growing segment. Doing well too.
Duster: This compact crossover had been a hit for Dacia and likewise Renault when sold as such. Its a budget model as is the case with all Dacia cars.
Kwid: It is a budget mini crossover designed for the Indian market but starting to find customers here too.
Summary: Renault has spent the last few years changing what it sell in the Republic. They have kept the best and the new models are doing well. The issue will be keeping the momentum up as the 5% barrier might become just that, a limit that the brand cannot go beyond.
