Opel/Vauxhall Model Sales - 2016

Neither Opel nor Vauxhall are sold in New Zealand do my knowledge of the range isn't that great. Over the years the Astra have been the main import, sold under the Holden brand. The Corsa has been here too.

Sales were up 5.9%, nearly all of which is within Europe. That is a satisfactory result but not startling, showing how competitive an environment the market is there. So how about the models?

City car: Surprisingly two models in this segment, the Adam and Karl/Viva. Between them just over 100,000 sales. The former is assembled in Germany and the latter in Korea.

Supermini: The Corsa which is a strong selling model with nearly 300,000 finding homes in 2016. Often the top selling in the range, it came in second this year under review.

Small car: The top seller in the range for this year is the Astra, just getting past 300,000 with a 20% gain.

Large car: With about 80,000 sales, the Insignia was down 13% in volume.

MPV: This is comprised of the smaller Meriva and larger Zafira Tourer. Combined sales total 107,500 with a combined increase for the year.

SUV: Two models again, the mini Mokka X and larger Antara. The former sold 175,000 while the latter is in runout mode, presumably replaced by the Crossland X.

Van: The Corsa van is included in that model's sales. The other vans are the small Combo (Fiat Doblò), medium sized Vivaro and large Movano (Renault Master). Those three add up to 127,500 sales.

Convertible: I guess this is the halo car, the mid sized Cascada. I have seen a few around where I live and I think it is an important part of a range to have something exotic and a bit indulgent.
