BMW managed a respectable 6% increase in sales in 2016, on the back of the new Clubman and Convertible models. The Paceman, Roadster and Coupé were phased out as they proved unsuccessful. BMW's quest for niches hit a snag. The last of their production was incorporated into other models.
MINI was a smash hit when it came out and it soon became a range of models. Others variants joined and with the UK plant at maximum capacity, some production went to Austria (which ceased late 2016). More recently production was commenced in the Netherlands.
Production location in 2016 was as follows: UK 210,971 (58.6% of the total & +4.9% increase over 2015), Netherlands 87,609 (24.3% & +53.6%), Austria 53,528 (14.9% & -35.2%).
