Mexico Car Sales - Brand / 2016

Mexico just had its seventh consecutive sales increase for cars (the same as Canada has). Nissan has been top for seven years (as Ford has in Canada) but it did lose market share slightly in 2016. Second is GM, which lost the lead to Nissan. GM's reign of #1's went from 1996-2008, so change at the top is  not a regular occurrence. Total sales have nearly doubled since 2010.

Two new brands have arrived in Mexico and really done well. Hyundai turned up in 2014 and Kia a year later. I wondered how they grew so quickly. Well, it seems that from the year 2000 Hyundai models were sold in Mexico through Chrysler, under the Dodge logo. Hyundai then decided to break away and do their own thing. So Mexican car buyers were already familiar with some of their models. In Kia's case, they seem to have expanded the dealer network very quickly.

In the chart below, pale yellow represents a reduction in registrations, pale blue is increase but lost market share. Green is for those exceeding the market growth and finally the salmon colour for those with over 100% increase.
