Car Sales By Brand Hong Kong : 2014

The Toyota Noah is a top seller in HK. Expecting rain then?

Car ownership is an issue in this tiny nation, so many don't. Parking is difficult and expensive. Many car buyers can afford premium marques, so they do very well here. Congestion is a problem, as you would imagine.

Sales in 2014 were up 2%, the fifth consecutive year of growth. Toyota leads, although I have made the lead more by putting taxi sales in with the car sales total, as they are cars. To see what cars sell as taxis, the totals are at the bottom of the chart, with a yellow shading. That's in case you want to separate them. Only two brand are involved, and nearly all Toyota. BYD electric taxis didn't seem to make it into the figures athough I don't think there were many of them anyway.

Renault came two years ago and may be on the way out already. That often happens with mainstream brands trying to find a niche in the market.
