|The Santa Fe a successful model|
Hyundai slips in between Nissan and Honda on my list at number six. The progress the brand has made has been extremely good. Moving on to the next level of challenging the top selling brands will be difficult. One way would be adding a pick up truck to its range. I wager it won't be that long before they, or more likely Kia, enter that important segment.
As for nations where the car maker has plants, Asia accounts for 73.4%, Europe 14.1% and the Americas 12.5%. This is different to other large car producers who have a more global positioning of factories. Being a late arrival at this level will be part of the reason for that. It does need to broaden out in this area. Korea was just over 50% in 2010, so more production is offshore now. China is at a record percentage of the total, while Brazil is a new operation.
